TEES FOR A CURE / 2023

In the words of FashioNZ “..small things that make a big impact, Breast Cancer Cure tees fit the bill.”

We’re excited to share that we are part of the Breast Cancer Cure Summer Tess for a Cure campaign again this year. It has become an annual tradition at taylor, and one that we are so proud to take part in.

This small purchase makes an incredible difference to Breast Cancer Cure, or BCC as we like to call them. Every dollar from the tees supports breast cancer research here in New Zealand. 3500 kiwis are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and it’s not discriminatory.

This year 16 local designers have come together to create unique designs including Taylor, Karen Walker, Kowtow, Hailwood, Kathryn Wilson, Federation, NYNE, Tuesday, Storm, Repertoire, Stella + Gemma, Moochi Yvonne Bennetti, Trelise Cooper, Coop and Cooper.

So how does it work?

The tees are now available for pre-order on BCC’s website and will deliver from December 11 - perfect for a Christmas gift. The pre-order system means that Breast Cancer Cure doesn’t need to hold any stock, and only orders the sizes and styles that are purchased. Not only does that save tees from going to waste, but helps the organisation keep the costs down, maximising the money for research.

Our Designs

This year, Vicki and Taylor graphic designer and New Zealand artist Rebekah Farr created two designs. We spent a while in our workroom going between the two deciding which we should submit. In the end, we decided it should be up to you. You can now shop both designs online - and are unisex, so ladies, don’t forget your husband, partner, son, friends and family.

You’ll see below images of our team in the tees, but also Vicki’s husband Mark and two boys Hugo and Zach. She asked very nicely one morning if they would join us at the BCC shoot and popped along to take part. It’s great to see how these tees can be worn across all ages, shapes, sizes and genders.

Design 1 - Strips

Reflecting our Taylor SS24 collection, this tee draws inspiration from the humble weatherboard buildings, synonymous with New Zealand architecture. Weatherboards are the protective facade of our buildings, perfectly straight but becoming weathered over the years. To protect, to waver but never break.

To create this, Vicki and design assistant Trent layered individual strips of silk over one another on a pinboard. Once lifted upright, the unpinned pieces of silk hung in different directions creating new shapes and meaning. Bek Farr worked from an image of this creation for the tee artwork.

Design 2 - Incidence

This print lends itself as a visual metaphor of the struggles and relationship with breast cancer for women. With one woman diagnosed every three hours, and two women losing their battle every day, we felt it was important to create a visual of these facts. The high incidence of breast cancer in New Zealand is a fact none of us can ignore.

The ink swipe was created by artist Bek Farr in her Wairarapa-based studio. This swipe originally started out as a way for Bek to check her brushes before working on a larger piece - but in their own right are small pieces of art.
