Posted:
We're excited to announce that a long-term friend and family member to the taylor team, Kate Barnett-Greenslade is now taking over the manager position at our Newmarket boutique!
To officially welcome her into this new and exciting role, we asked Kate a few questions about herself, her journey into taylor and what she is loving from our latest S22 collection!
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF
"I'm a mother of four, three girls and a boy. I'm a big fan of travelling with my husband Michael and I’m looking forward to doing more of that in the future. I have two cheeky dogs, Minnie and Mattie, and I love spending time with my extended family as they are always up for a good time. I’ve worked at taylor for 11 years as a stylist. I love the intelligent designs and how our own creativity is encouraged. In addition to this, I am also an artist which has been an important part of my life. I often do online courses and love finding new artistic ways to express myself."
CAN YOU SHARE WITH US YOUR JOURNEY TO BECOMING A TAYLOR MEMBER?
"I began my journey with taylor 12 years ago, which is unbelievable really. Mainly based in Newmarket with the occasional day at The Shelter, which I love. Throughout the years, taylor has become part of the tapestry that has interwoven family and is a very important part of my life and I'm very lucky in that regard. I love the brand because of the intelligent design, beautiful fabrics and the wonderful clients taylor attracts, who are so special. Moreover, as a team, we have a supportive environment, support each other's artistic endeavours and most importantly, we have loads of fun."
WHAT DREW YOU TO YOUR ROLE AS MANAGER?
"Ha ha well - I was approached about managing Newmarket at the right time and I'm so excited. We have a fantastic NM team and I really look forward to spending more time with each and every one of them."
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING WITH OUR TAYLOR CLIENTS IN-STORE?
"Their dedication! I love the way our clients see the garments artistically, they can appreciate the thought and intelligence put into the design of the pieces. They can see how versatile, interesting and different our garments are. I’ve built some amazing relationships with wonderful people over the years, I thoroughly enjoy them visiting me in-store and getting to know what and how they like wearing taylor pieces."
OUTSIDE OF WORK, WHAT ARE YOUR PASSIONS AND WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
"In addition to my family, I'm quite social and have a wonderful extended family and friends. I love to travel and walk my dogs Mattie and Minnie, going out to get a coffee (addicted), and wouldn't pass up a good concert either. I love art and enjoy painting when I can. My garage has become my studio where I create my works which are inspired by texture, colour, movement and form, nature, music and other artists." Click here to see more of Kate's work.
HOW DOES FASHION AND ART CROSS OVER/, HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN INTERESTED IN BOTH?
"Yes I have always been interested in both. Fashion and Art definitely work together, especially when it comes to colour, form and textures. There are some famous artists that have produced the most beautiful works that have then been made into fabrics.
I started in fashion and ended up doing a Fashion Drawing Course where I started drawing the female form, which then grew into a love of art and painting."
Kate wears the Absolve Tee with the Dominate pants and the Cropt Transfer Jacket.
HOW WOULD YOU ALL DESCRIBE YOUR OWN PERSONAL STYLE?
"I like to think I am creative with what I wear and enjoy exploring different styles. I love the iconic taylor layering look, and enjoy incorporating other pieces into my outfits. My favourite layering combo includes pairing casual pieces, such as pair of jeans, with a lovely silk top or classic shirt, which creates a versatile look that can easily be dressed up or down. I enjoy incorporating colour and classic pieces with an edge to them. I try to experiment with my styling, often I will try to wear pieces in different ways such as turning them back to front to change up the look. I love coats, scarves and boots. A bit of a heel, a bit of drama. Not afraid to try new things and I like a little punk too."
Kate wears the Reconcile Oblique, Dominate Pant Particle Pouch and the Extension Tank.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PIECES FROM THE S22 COLLECTION?
"Well that's easy - The Glaze Dress paired with the Dominate Pant. I always start with an Extension Tank and then a Sleeveless Undone Tunic on cooler or wet days a Puro boot and when the weather decides to sort itself out, a Tyre Slide or a Limitless Platform Sandal. I love jeans, my favourite being by the brand B Sides which are stocked at The Shelter. I absolutely love the Print Slope Dress - Landscape print with the matching Print Station Pant or the Extension Dress. Station Pants are a wonderful addition worn casually with tees and the Rapport Sweater or the Refined Revolve Tank Squared. A favourite for many years is the Reconcile Oblique, I always seem to reach for this piece time and time again, another staple in my wardrobe is the Boxed Hat by Mature Ha, which is perfect for the warm weather and I will definitely be wearing mine all summer long."
