MEET OUR MANAGER | Christchurch's Liz

Step inside taylor Christchurch and get to our beloved Store Manager. Working alongside Janette and Pera, Liz is the perfect addition to the taylor family.

We sat down with Liz in between styling sessions to talk about her retail journey, personal style and her best tips for the next time you find yourself in Christchurch.

What do you love most about working with our Taylor Christchurch clients?

Every person who walks through our door is unique, and it’s such a privilege to get to know them all. We never know what the day will bring, and being able to build long-term relationships and develop trust with our clients is a very special thing. I always say our job isn’t to tell people what to wear but to empower them to make choices and build their confidence in their decisions. I still get a kick out of people coming back in to show us how they are styling pieces or sharing photos of them wearing pieces at events.

How would you describe your personal style?

Constantly evolving I’m confident in myself and love to change things up.

You’ve had an impressive retail career! Tell us about how you ended up working in the industry and some of the awesome roles you’ve had.

I’ve always loved working in retail environments, from part-time work while at University to multi-site management for international brands. I’ve loved every step of the journey. After University, I was in an office-based role, but I really missed the connection with people, so when we moved to Wellington for a few years, I took the opportunity to have a hard look at what my most rewarding job would look like, and I kept coming back to retail. Even when I took a break for a few years, I volunteered as a stylist at Dress for Success, an amazing organization that empowers women through career development, including providing a work wardrobe.

What pieces are you currently loving?

Terrible question!!! That’s like asking who the favourite child is —it changes daily!!! It’s chilly in Christchurch today, so my Prepense Cardigan under my Duple Blazer with a Reconcile Oblique brings me such joy. We’re excited to have the Mark Baigent pop-up in store now, too—fabulous pieces!

What is the best piece of styling advice you’ve ever received?

Keeping it simple - Value yourself and don’t compromise.

Where would we find you when you’re not at styling with Taylor?

My favourite times are our big family dinners. I’m so lucky to have four generations here in Christchurch, and while we love to travel, Christchurch will always be home. I’m an avid gardener, and although it is referred to as “the jungle, “ you will often find me there planning my next tree purchase or wrestling the weeds. I also love walking our two doggoes in Christchurch’s beautiful green spaces or down at the beach on a sunny day.

You’re a connected Christchurch local - where should we be eating and exploring when we are in town?

Our last team dinner was at Bar Yoku at the Welder and it’s become a favourite with my whole family now. Londo just down the road never disappoints and Rocabar on Oxford Tce is now firmly on rotation thanks to a recommendation from one of our team.

If you’re not visiting us in store there’s always something happening in Christchurch, I love going to the Court Theatre or a concert. Sunday mornings at the Art Centre for a coffee and while you’re there a visit to the Tiny Toy shop for a treat for a special little person and to Francis Nation supporting local is a must.
