Essential Tips and Tricks

We believe that just like us, you love your beautiful garments and want to keep them in perfect condition. Following the care label instructions is really important, but there is a series of tips and tricks that those who work in the Fashion Industry swear by.

So, we decided to share some of them with you.

Tip #1: Knit garments should be folded and placed over the bar of the hanger, not hung from the shoulders. The weight of the fabric pulls the material down, which causes hanger humps and can stretch heavier knits out of shape. Another option is to fold your knitwear in thirds so you don’t get a fold line running down the front of the sweater.

Tip #2: To prevent colour loss and to keep silk in good condition, add up to three tablespoons of white vinegar for every two quarts of water.

Tip #3: Always store silk in a dry dark place, and never keep in it in plastic since the fabric needs to breathe, and silk will fade if left in direct sunlight.

Tip #4: If you get an oil stain on your favorite silk piece, coat the mark with baby/talcum powder and let it stand overnight. By morning, Shake the garment or lightly brush the powder off and the stain should be gone. If a bit still remains, repeat the process until the stain is completely gone.

Tip #5: You should always wash or dry clean matching pieces at the same time (even when you don’t wear them together) to make certain that a slight color loss doesn't give you two pieces that almost match.

Tip #6: If you do dry-clean your cashmere, be sure to remove all garments from the protective plastic immediately. Wrap them in tissue paper and place in cedar-scented bags instead.

Tip #7: Hang wool coats and jackets on good wood hangers so the weight of the coat doesn’t stretch the shoulder area. Also, empty pockets after every wearing to keep them from losing shape.

Tip #8: Remove light stains on wool by blotting with cold water or club soda using absorbent cloths or paper towel.

Tip #9: To stop angora or mohair from shedding, fold the garment and place it into a zip-top bag and freeze it for at least three hours.

Tip #10: Baby-wipes are great to remove make up stains from your garments.
